Together We're Stronger

Marshalling Brain Injuries Alliance
(Trading name of Marshalling CTE CIC)

Volunteer Peer Support Group Moderator

Help Us Change the Future of Brain Injury Support

Marshalling Brain Injuries Alliance supports individuals and families affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI), Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), and other neurodegenerative conditions linked to repetitive head impacts.

Brain injury can affect memory, mood, behaviour, relationships and mental health. Many people living with these conditions feel isolated, misunderstood or dismissed.

We exist to:

  • Raise awareness of concussion and repetitive head impacts
  • Provide free emotional and peer support
  • Equip individuals with practical tools
  • Build connection and community

We are now looking for compassionate, reliable Volunteer Peer Support Group Moderators to help facilitate our growing support community.

About the Role

Our peer support spaces are safe, confidential environments where individuals impacted by brain injury can connect and share lived experiences.

As a Volunteer Moderator, you will:

  • Moderate our Facebook support groups
  • Moderate our WhatsApp support groups
  • Help facilitate online peer support discussions
  • Ensure conversations remain respectful, safe and aligned with group guidelines
  • Welcome new members and help them feel comfortable
  • Encourage balanced, inclusive participation
  • Monitor posts for safeguarding concerns and escalate appropriately
  • Signpost members to appropriate support services where necessary
  • Uphold confidentiality at all times

This role does not involve providing medical advice or counselling. It is about peer connection, safe facilitation and community care.

Safeguarding & Support

Because our community discussions can involve mental health and crisis-related topics:

  • You will receive clear moderation guidelines and escalation procedures
  • Ongoing support and check-ins will be provided
  • Confidentiality and safeguarding standards must be upheld at all times

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants who are:

  • Compassionate, calm and emotionally intelligent
  • Confident in managing online communities
  • Comfortable moderating sensitive conversations
  • Able to maintain clear boundaries
  • Reliable and discreet
  • Familiar with Facebook Groups and WhatsApp (admin/moderation experience beneficial)
  • Knowledgeable about safeguarding principles

Lived experience of brain injury — personally or as a family member — is welcomed but not essential.

Experience in mental health, community support, facilitation or online moderation is beneficial but not required. Guidance and support will be provided.

Time Commitment
Moderation typically requires light daily check-ins and availability during agreed support sessions.

We will work around your availability.

Additional Information

  • This is an unpaid volunteer position.
  • Successful applicants will be required to sign an NDA to protect service user confidentiality.

How to Apply

Please email your CV to our Secretary: Jennifer.coates@marshalling-cte.co.uk

There will be an informal conversation to ensure the role is the right fit.

Successful applicants will be required to:

  • Sign an NDA
  • Provide two UK-based references

Together, we can ensure nobody impacted by brain injury has to navigate it alone.
