Drawing on both his sporting career and his experience living with probable CTE, Steve is committed to educating others about brain injury and the importance of player welfare. Through awareness work, media appearances, and community engagement, he helps give a voice to those affected by brain injury while advocating for meaningful improvements in safety and support.

Rich Coates
Co-Founder & Ambassador

Richard "Rich" Coates is the co-founder of Marshalling Brain Injuries Alliance and a passionate advocate for brain injury awareness. Following more than 30 years playing rugby union and a diagnosis of probable CTE and early-onset dementia at the age of 41, he has dedicated his life to raising awareness of the long-term impact of repetitive head injuries, supporting affected individuals and families, and helping make sport safer for future generations.

Steve Phillips (Satya Hari Das)
Ambassador for Alternative Therapies & Health

Steve Phillips (Satya Hari Das) is a former Wales age-grade international rugby player, naturopathic nutritionist, educator, and advocate for integrative health. Combining his sporting background with decades of experience in natural health, wellbeing, and emerging therapies, he is passionate about helping individuals explore evidence-informed approaches that may support brain health, resilience, and quality of life.

 

As one of MBIA's longest-serving ambassadors, Steve has supported the organisation since its earliest days. He is committed to raising awareness of holistic and complementary approaches to health, empowering individuals and families affected by brain injury to make informed choices about their wellbeing and recovery journey.

Ben Mulligan
Ambassador

Ben Mulligan is a former professional boxer from County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, who has turned his personal experience into a mission to help others affected by brain injury. Following his diagnosis of CTE, he has become a passionate advocate for raising awareness of the long-term impact of repetitive head trauma, supporting affected individuals and families, and encouraging honest conversations about the realities of life after sport.

 

As an MBIA Ambassador, Ben uses his voice and lived experience to help ensure that no one faces the challenges of brain injury alone, while promoting greater understanding, support, and hope for those navigating a similar journey.

Fiona Curran
Clinical Advisor – Neurofeedback & Neuroregulation

Fiona Curran is a leading neurofeedback practitioner, educator, and the UK Representative for NeurOptimal®. Through her work supporting individuals with brain injury, trauma, emotional dysregulation, and cognitive challenges, she is passionate about helping people improve resilience, self-regulation, and quality of life using non-invasive neurotechnology and evidence-informed approaches.

 

As MBIA's Clinical Advisor for Neurofeedback & Neuroregulation, Fiona provides specialist guidance on neurofeedback, nervous system regulation, and emerging approaches that may support brain health and wellbeing for those affected by brain injury and related neurological conditions.

Lenny Woodard
Ambassador

As one of Wales' most accomplished rugby league players, Lenny is committed to using his voice to help educate, inspire, and support others affected by brain injury. Through sharing his personal journey with probable CTE and early-onset dementia, he helps raise awareness of the long-term effects of repetitive head impacts and advocates for a safer future for athletes.
